When was the last time you made plans just for you? Not because someone else wanted to go somewhere or because you had something you needed to get done, but simply because it sounded like a good way to spend your time. Taking yourself on a “me date” is a chance to choose exactly what you feel like doing – whether that’s getting out of the house, trying something new, slowing down or spending a few hours doing things you already know you love.
And it doesn’t have to be a big event. A me date can be an entire afternoon out or a slow morning at home with your coffee and planner. The point is simply to set aside some time that’s yours and make a plan for enjoying it. Here are 10 ideas to get you started.
Coffee + Planner Time
Grab your favorite drink, turn on your favorite playlist, light your favorite scented candle and tune out the world while you play in your planner.
Cozy Night In
Make your favorite snacks and cue up your favorite show or movie – most more importantly – put your phone out of reach and just enjoy some time to yourself.
Creative Time
Pick up a fun craft kit, pick out a fun project on Pinterest to try, make a new Lego set or spend some time coloring. Whatever gives you some time to feel createive!
Outing for One
Spend some time out doing something just for you – bookstore, park, thrift store, coffee shop, farmer’s market, a scenic drive – whatever sparks your joy!
Treat Yourself Date
Take yourself out for a little treat! Grab lunch at a favorite spot, try the bakery you’ve been eyeing, get ice cream or finally order the fancy coffee you usually talk yourself out of. Sit down, take your time and enjoy it instead of grabbing it to go.
The Fun Errand Run
Turn a few ordinary errands into an afternoon you actually enjoy. Put on an outfit you feel good in, make a great playlist and wander through Target, Trader Joe’s, the craft store or wherever you genuinely like browsing. No rushing allowed.
Try Something New
Pick something you’ve been curious about and make a date out of trying it. Take a pottery class, visit a new restaurant, try a new recipe, download a new game or finally attempt something you’ve had saved on Pinterest for months.
Get Outside
Pack a drink or snack and spend some time outside with nowhere else you need to be. Walk a favorite trail, find a pretty spot to read, visit a botanical garden, sit by the water or simply take the long way through your neighborhood.
A Few of My Favorite Things
Plan a few hours around nothing but your favorite things. Grab your favorite drink, eat something you love, visit one of your favorite places or spend some time doing an activity that always makes you happy. You don’t need to try anything new – the whole point is to fill your time with things you already know you love.
Slow Morning
Give yourself a morning with nowhere to rush off to. Sleep in, stay in your PJs, make a breakfast you normally don’t have time for and actually sit down to enjoy your coffee. Put on some music, spend a little time playing in your planner, read a few chapters or simply enjoy having nowhere else you need to be. Most importantly – don’t start the day with your to-do list.
